Identify the sample

A concept sample, packaging sample and production sample answer different questions. Ask which type you are receiving and whether it represents the proposed formula, process and final pack. Keep its identifier with the accompanying specification.

Record observable features

Use a consistent review sheet for appearance, unit size, texture, pack condition and dispensing experience. Note the date and sample version. Photos can explain an issue, but appearance cannot establish ingredient content, microbiological quality or efficacy.

Review supporting documents

Ask which specifications and tests apply, which methods and acceptance limits are used, and whether the results correspond to this sample or another batch. A generic certificate or another product’s report should not be substituted for product-specific evidence. Refer unresolved technical questions to an appropriate professional.

Make feedback actionable

Describe the observation, the requested change and the requirement it relates to. Separate visual preferences from specification issues. Ask whether a revision affects the formula, process, packaging or further evaluation. Retain the original feedback and record the response.

Separate approval from production release

Document exactly what has been approved and what remains open. Confirm how production specifications, batch records and required tests will be reviewed. Do not infer a health benefit from taste, appearance or a handling check. Individual animal use and feeding directions need suitable professional advice.
